See where to cut before you trim. The built-in LED lights the cutting area and the flip-up magnifier helps you look closely at your pet’s nail.

How to use it

Three steps: gently extend the nail, inspect it with the LED and magnifier, then trim only the clear tip

  1. Extend the nail: Gently hold the paw and press the toe pad until one claw is visible. Keep your pet calm and steady.
  2. Light and inspect: Turn on the LED and flip up the clear magnifier. On a pale nail, look for the pink quick inside the nail.
  3. Trim the very tip: Place only a tiny amount of the clear, pointed end into the blade opening. Keep the cut well beyond the pink quick, then squeeze the handle. Check the next nail before repeating.

Where is the safe cut?

Red in the illustration = the quick. Never cut it. The red shading is an educational overlay; the LED itself does not turn the quick red. Trim only a little of the clear tip beyond it. For dark nails, the quick may be impossible to see even with the light and magnifier, so take off tiny amounts or ask a groomer or veterinarian to show you where to cut.
